La Maison des Artistes
La MdA (La Maison des Artistes) is the association with a national competence of all professional artists from visual arts stated in France created in 1952 by artists in a spirit of mutual aid and solidarity. La Maison des Artistes fulfills two complementary missions: a public service mission and a mission of general interest.
La Maison des Artistes is the professional organization, with the accreditation given by French government since 1965 for the social insurance management of the graphic and plastic arts branch of the mandatory declaration system social security of artists.
On one hand, La Maison des Artistes conducts a public service mission of census and of collecting social contributions of artists from original graphic and visual artworks. La Maison des Artistes is also collecting social contributions of Art dealers who is doing act of trade of artworks and/or remunerating artists. La Maison des Artistes contributes to the identification of professional artists and Art dealers in the graphic and visual arts sector.
Thus, La Maison des Artistes is a place of professional identification of all graphic and visual artists who have their tax household in France. From the first euro collected, the artist must declare himself to the CFE URSSAF in order to obtain his Siren/siret number and to identify himself to social security services of La Maison des Artistes for obtaining the number called “numéro d’ordre”.
On the other hand, La Maison des Artistes is pursuing missions of general interest for the artists in a spirit of gathering, mutual support and reflection to enhance the professional status of artists through information, the defence of professional interests, solidarity and support.
La MdA is composed of the headquarters (associative structure, law 1901, with the accreditation given by the French government), including an associative service where every professional artist can choose to join or not the social security services (secondary establishment) to which any artists and Art dealers is required to contribute from the moment artistic revenues are collected or artistic remunerations are paid. The associative service pursues a mission to support artists in their professional careers.
By their voluntary annual membership to the association, artists receive a membership card giving easy access to many places of culture and to professional services at negotiated rates. Services provided allow access to membership to:
- a specialised support (social consultations, legal consultations, accounting consultations, tax and Prevention Committee, …),
- professional and dedicated solutions (complementary health insurance contracts, regional network, …),
- a support for the creation (grants, equipment grants, tariff benefits from specialised retailers Fine Arts …)
- a support to diffusion (artistescontemporains.org…).
At December 31, 2014, 54,000 artists are identified to the branch of graphic and plastic arts and nearly 18 000 have taken membership to the associative services.
